1. Overview
This policy explains what information the Walkland team (the "Operator") processes when providing the Walkland mobile application (the "App"), for what purposes, how long it is kept, and what rights you have. The Operator complies with applicable laws of your jurisdiction, including the EU GDPR and the Korean Personal Information Protection Act.
2. How location data is handled (key section)
- When it is collected — GPS location is collected only during a session you start by tapping "Start recording". A foreground service with a visible notification keeps recording while the screen is off; collection stops immediately when you end the session. The App does not collect location when you are not recording.
- Server processing — Uploaded coordinates pass an anti-cheat check and are immediately converted into hexagonal grid-cell identifiers (H3, ~70m). Raw GPS coordinates are not stored on our servers.
- Retention — Cell-level route data is kept for up to 14 days after a session ends (for anti-cheat verification), then deleted automatically. Captured territory follows the weekly game cycle and past cycles are deleted automatically. Weekly ranking scores are kept for up to 8 weeks.
- Privacy zones — You can register protected areas (100–500m radius) around sensitive places such as your home or workplace. The center coordinate you pick is discarded right after being converted into a list of grid cells — it is never stored as a coordinate — and locations inside the zone are excluded from recording and from the map.
- Region label — For regional leaderboards, only a coarse district-level region name is derived from your captured cells.
3. Information we do not collect
- Name, email address, phone number — the App has no account system.
- Raw GPS coordinates on the server — see section 2.
- Contacts, photos, call logs or other on-device data — never accessed.
- Payment details (card numbers, etc.) — payments are handled by Google Play.
4. Information collected automatically
| Data | Purpose | Processor |
|---|---|---|
| Randomly generated anonymous user identifier, nickname you choose, session stats (distance, duration, captured cells) | Saving game progress; leaderboards (nickname, region and score are public) | Operator |
| Advertising identifier (Android Advertising ID), device info (model, OS version, language), IP address (may be used to estimate an approximate region), ad interaction data | Serving and measuring ads (which fund the free app); verifying rewarded-ad views | Google AdMob |
| App usage events (screen views, feature usage), app instance identifier, device info | Usage statistics and service improvement | Google Firebase (Analytics) |
| Crash logs, diagnostics, device info | Detecting errors and improving stability | Google Firebase (Crashlytics) |
| Purchase history (subscription product ID, purchase receipt token), anonymous user identifier — when subscriptions are offered | Verifying and restoring subscription status | RevenueCat |
5. Third-party privacy policies
- Google (AdMob, Firebase): policies.google.com/privacy
- Firebase data processing: firebase.google.com/support/privacy
- RevenueCat: revenuecat.com/privacy
6. Retention and deletion
- Cell-level routes: up to 14 days after session end. Weekly scores: up to 8 weeks. Reward-grant audit records: 90 days. All deleted automatically.
- Usage statistics visible to the Operator (Firebase Analytics) are configured to auto-delete after 14 months; crash logs after 90 days.
- The anonymous identifier, nickname and lifetime stats are kept while the service is provided, and deleted without delay upon request.
- Deleting the App removes on-device data (settings, local records).
7. Your rights
- Stop location collection — end the session, or revoke the location permission in device settings (recording will no longer work).
- Privacy zones — manage protected areas in the App settings.
- Opt out of ad personalization — Android: Settings > Google > Ads, reset or delete your Advertising ID.
- Change ad consent (GDPR regions) — App settings > "Privacy options" lets you modify your consent at any time.
- Data deletion — contact us below and we will delete server data linked to your anonymous identifier (nickname, stats, territory records) without delay.
- Requests for access, rectification or restriction can be made the same way.
8. International transfers
Data processed by third parties (Google, RevenueCat) may be processed on their servers (e.g. in the United States). Each processor applies lawful safeguards such as standard contractual clauses under its own policy.
9. Children
The App is not directed at children under 14 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction) and does not knowingly collect children's personal information.
10. Security
All network traffic is encrypted with HTTPS (TLS). The App follows data-minimization principles: raw GPS coordinates are never stored, privacy-zone centers are discarded immediately, and time-expired data is deleted automatically.
11. Changes
If this policy changes, the revision and its effective date will be posted on this page. Material changes will be announced in the App.
